IT was only set up earlier this year. But it has already left a lasting impression.

The Focus Crochet Group in Galashiels has produced a special wall hanging to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.

Members presented their work to the town’s Royal British Legion following their meeting last week.

Galashiels Community Council secretary Tracey Alder, who helps run the group, said: “I am very proud of the ladies and what they have achieved. This is a gorgeous piece of work that I hope the British Legion will enjoy displaying in years to come.

“The ladies have only been crocheting since March, some less than that.” The Crochet Group meets at the Focus Centre in Livingstone Place, Galashiels, every Wednesday, from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The wall hanging is only the second project the group have been involved in, having raffled a blanket for charity earlier this year.

But now they already have designs on their next project.

Tracey, who is pictured with the chairman of the local branch of the RBL Scotland, Jock Clowry said: “The Focus Crochet Group handed over a wall hanging of a WW1 poppy scene that they all participated in making.

“This is the second big project that the ladies have done and they are now looking to focus their attention on either something for the arrival of the train or next year’s Walking Festival based in Galashiels.”
