WITH the project having just past the halfway mark, an open day for local people to register their interest in working on Galashiels Transport Interchange will be held next month.

Employment opportunities are available with sub-contractors already operating on £5.2million project, while companies seeking to get involved as a sub-contractor can also come along to hear more.

The open day will be hosted at the Galashiels TI site office of tier one contractor Morrison Construction, with attendees free to come along at any time on Friday, February 6, between 8am and 4.30pm.

Opportunities include working on a range of internal trades as well as cladding and external works packages.

Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development, Councillor Stuart Bell, said: “Galashiels Transport Interchange is progressing well, with the building now taking shape ahead of its summer opening.

“It will play a key role in the Council’s long term aim to provide better connections between all means of sustainable transport. Despite the project heading into its final stages, there are still opportunities for employment.

“The Council remains committed to supporting communities across the region throughout the construction and delivery of the Transport Interchange, and would encourage any local people to attend the open day and find out more about the project.” Those who cannot make the open day can sign up afterwards to find out more about work opportunities by visiting: www.hubsoutheastscotland.co.uk/supply-chain/opportunities-for-smes Paul McGirk, Chief Executive of Hub South East Scotland Ltd, Scottish Borders Council’s Development Partner delivering the project, said: “One of the key aims of the Hub initiative is to ensure the delivery of community benefits for local people.

“This includes promoting opportunities for employment within our supply chain and to this end we are keen to attract as many people as possible to this event in the Borders.” And he added: “We would encourage local people in the area to come along and find out more.”
