A 26-YEAR-OLD man has admitted a raid on a local post office to steal alcohol after leaving his DNA at the scene of the crime.

Daniel Hamilton, of Gala Park, Galashiels, had initially denied the break-in and stealing a quantity of Buckfast at the Post Office in the town’s Marmion Road last week.

But he changed his plea to guilty after cutting himself breaking through the wire mesh at the building and leaving blood behind.

His not guilty plea to stealing a bottle of vodka from Aldi in Galashiels the previous day was accepted by the Crown.

Hamilton previously pleaded guilty to charges of stealing cosmetics from Boots at Gala Water Retail Park on October 21 and July 2 and breaching a bail condition not to enter the chemist shop.

He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on August 3.
