A FATAL accident inquiry is to be held into the circumstances surrounding the death of one of the Borders best known farmers.
Jim Sharp, 66, was found dead at his farm steading at Newbigging Walls, near Lauder, by his wife Obie in March.
It is understood he had become entangled in barn machinery while operating a grain auger.
Mr Sharp was a former livestock convener of NFU Scotland and a prominent breeder of Blackface sheep.
He was also captain of Melrose Rugby Club for several seasons.
The inquiry is due to be held at Selkirk Sheriff Court on November 28. An intermediate hearing has been fixed for October 30.
