POLICE are investigating a number of shootings in Melrose.

Two youths are suspected of firing pellets at customers in the beer garden at the Ship Inn on February 2.

And, in a separate incident on January 22, a small airgun pellet was found lodged in the front door of Baird Butchers in the town's High Street.

The shootings feature in the monthly police report due to be presented to community councillors in Melrose tonight (Wednesday).

Elsewhere, a charity box and mobile phone were stolen from within a staff area of Masons of Melrose on February 7. It is the latest in a series of charity tin thefts in the area.

Money was also reported stolen from a shop in Dingleton Road on February 9.

A vehicle parked in High Cross Avenue, Melrose, was found smeared with dog excrement on January 30.

And a warning was issued following a report of youths "lying down in the middle of Chiefswood Road".
