LOCAL MP Michael Moore has welcomed figures published last week which show another drop in unemployment in his constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk.

The figures show that in Mr Moore’s constituency, the number of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance in June this year was 1,324, which is 430 lower than at the same time last year and 50 lower compared to the previous month.

Commenting, Mr Moore said: “I am glad to hear that there has been another drop in unemployment in my constituency. Fifty more people in work compared to May is fifty more people reaching their potential, using their skills and providing for their families. This is great news for them, our community and our local economy.” “Over a thousand people on Job Seekers Allowance in the Borders is still far too high and there is much to be done to help these people find work. I am continuing to work with the local council and businesses to see what we can do to further tackle unemployment in the constituency. One person out of work is one person too many and I am committed to doing all I can as local MP to reduce local unemployment.”
