AN Ancrum man broke into nearby car wash premises where he used to work and stole a cash register and a Mazda car.

Twenty-year-old Taylor Wright of Hopeton Farm Cottages, had worked several shifts at Autochoice Express at Bonjedward but was not offered permanent employment.

During the early hours on Monday, July 7, he forced open a door and made off with the cash register valued at £1,000 and also the car.

In addition to the break-in, he admitted driving without insurance on various roads in the Ancrum and Jedburgh area for which he was disqualified from driving for six months.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court. Wright also pleaded guilty to breaching his curfew on August 14 by being spotted at 4.15am in Weensland Road, Hawick, and also damaging a door in the same street when he was refused entry due to his intoxication.

He was ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work on the vandalism charges and curfew breaches and sentence was deferred for three months on the break-in.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond warned Wright he would be going to custody if there was any more offending.
