THE speed limit in Tweedbank is set to be increased to 40mph following the opening of the new rail terminus.
Community councillors gave the proposals the green light at their meeting in the community centre last week.
However, they have asked for traffic to be monitored to assess its impact on Tweedbank Drive, where the limit is currently 30mph.
The proposals, for the section which links the new station with the roundabout at the Melrose end of the village, are designed to encourage traffic destined for the rail terminus and industrial estate to avoid travelling through the centre of the village to reach the station.
However, Scottish Borders Council confirmed the local community is still to be consulted.
Meanwhile, in Galashiels, community councillors heard speeding did not seem to be an issue in the town’s Tweed Road after only one vehicle was clocked speeding in a 24 hour period - even though it was recoded at 41mph.
