OWNERS of a Selkirk hotel are to be served this week with a legal enforcement notice to repair a crumbling wall.
For more than two years an argument over liability has raged between the Glen Hotel owners and Scottish Borders Council.
And throughout that time, fed-up Souters have endured a controversial one-way system around the Yarrow Terrace, Heatherlie and Buccleuch Road area.
As revealed in the Border Telegraph last month, Scottish Borders Council are currently drawing up a legal document to serve on the hotel.
For the past week or two engineers from the local authority have also been on site to establish the specifications required for the repairs.
Selkirkshire councillor Michelle Ballantyne said: “The legal notice will be served this week. Our engineers are finalising the specifications which will accompany the legal notice.” Legal representatives of the Glen have maintained that the road-side wall is the responsibility of the local authority.
Councillor Ballantyne added: “The owners of the hotel will have to decide whether they are going to action the work. If they reject the notice it will mean court.
“Any court case will be about establishing liability for the wall.
“We are now taking the first step towards a solution.”
