Sir, I am writing to congratulate Border car drivers on their excellent cycle awareness.
I have been cycling on the A and B roads around the Selkirk area for a few weeks and the drivers leave plenty of space when they overtake and they wait until it is safe to overtake – this is much better than other countries where cyclists are placed in danger of injury or death by intolerant and impatient drivers. Keep up the safe driving Border drivers - well done and thank you.
In addition, I have noticed that many sections of the main A roads have a tarmac strip to the left of the main road outside of the white edge road marker.
Whether this is an intentional design feature or not, it is a great safety feature that enables cyclists to keep out of the way from fast and heavy vehicles.
Well done Main Roads for providing the extra outside tarmac strip thereby keeping cyclists safe.
I am, etc.
