SIR, I am astonished that the Scottish Borders Council have approved the Great Tapestry of Scotland to go to a visitor centre at Tweedbank.
In my opinion this does not make financial sense.
A better proposition for the tapestry’s location would be the former Co-operative NGT building at Dunsdale Haugh, just off the A7 at Selkirk.
It is an ideal size and, at less expense, could be adapted for viewing the Tapestry. There are plenty of car parking spaces there. The A7 is a busy road and the building can easily be seen by passing motorists.
This would also be a great boost for Selkirk, as this area is being neglected at present.
I am, etc.
