SIR, A letter in your April 22 edition caught my eye, “I deserve a proper MP”. Quite right, we all do.

I was pleased to see your correspondent had the SNP out in front of the Tories, with, surprisingly no mention at all of The LibDems or any of the other parties. I was however saddened to see that their intention was to vote Tory, even though they had never done so before, simply to try and keep the SNP out.

I did note that they did not want their name or address published, can’t help wondering if it was Michael Moore. While I would always encourage everyone to get out there and vote, regardless of their political persuasion, I would much rather they did so in support of something and in a positive way. Are there no candidates or parties who your correspondent thinks is worthy of their support?

I have of course heard of “tactical voting” but it does seem a waste not to show support for a party which represents your views and, will of course produce a false picture of what the people actually think.

As to a proper MP, I have met Calum Kerr of the SNP and I’m sure he would make both an excellent local MP and be a strong member of the SNP team at Westminster. He would be a proper MP.

I would actually be very disappointed if any candidate was defeated and the true will of the majority local people was not represented just because a few decided to move their votes to block that outcome.

I am, etc.
