SHELLEY Kerr’s Stirling University closed the gap at the top of the Lowland League after edging out Garry O’Connor’s Selkirk at Forthbank.

Ex Motherwell striker Paul McAfftery and George Leigh both scored for the Students in the 2-1 win to move within nine points of Edinburgh City, with games in hand.

Kerr said: “We created a lot of chances and could have been further in front but Selkirk looked dangerous in that second half.

“I was looking at my watch during as they really came at us. Selkirk will do well under Garry - he's obviously got a reaction from them since taking over.

“I’m delighted with the run we’re on just now and I hope we can keep it going.”

Former Morton forward Jordan Allan scored Selkirk’s second half consolation.

East Kilbride lost further ground as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Preston Athletic.

Craig Hastings had scored for the home team before David Porcher equalised for Athletic.

Captain Jamie Gibson scored a last-minute penalty for 10-man Gala Fairydean Rovers to steal the points against BSC Glasgow.

The Netherdale side had to twice come from behind, with a Ryan Clapperton double and a Stuart Noble strike, to snatch a 4-3 victory at the death.

Manager Steven Noble said: “I would have taken a draw with 20 minutes to go as we were poor in the second half.

“I didn’t expect the fightback we produced and I’m delighted with the character of the players.”

Dean McColm was red carded for the home side.

Aiden Ferris, Ciaran Johnston and David Gray were on target for BSC.

Graeme Bell and Stuart McPherson were on target as Dalbeattie Star beat Edinburgh University 2-1 at Peffermill.

Kyle Collins scored for the home team.

Vale of Leithen’s match at bottom side Threave Rovers was postponed due to a water-logged pitch.

And the remaining Lowland League card was also victim to the weather.
