SELKIRK enjoyed a narrow opening day victory as their Division 3 campaign finally got under way.

Following last weekend's postponement the Souters were looking to record their first win of the season.

Putting MDAFs into bat first, the home team fielded well with David Gardiner taking four wickets for the loss of only 25 runs and Rory Banks also taking three wickets for the loss of 12.

The Murrayfield side's 98 all out should have been easily reachable but Selkirk stuttered at the Philiphaugh crease in the opening overs.

Greg Fenton hit an impressive 34 with a mid-order 20 from Jordan Reid helping the Souters towards the target.

In a tight finish it was left to Neil Gentleman and Stuart Skeldon to edge over the finishing line with only one wicket to spare.
