SELKIRK’S four-goal hero Phil Addison played through the pain barrier to fire his team off the bottom of the league.

The former Hibernian striker helped Garry O’Connor’s team to a 7-4 victory over East Stirlingshire.

Addison said: “I’ve been struggling with my ankle but you don’t feel it when you score goals.

“They got us back to four-all and in the past we would have folded but we showed great character to go on and win the match.”

An Addison double along with strikes from Jay Doyle and Gary McCormack gave Selkirk a commanding 4-1 lead at the interval.

Shire responded with David Grant scoring a quickfire double and Andy Rogers also adding to Jamie Glasgow’s first half strike before the hour.

Ross King edged the home team back in front before Addison added a further two goals in the closing stages.

Dalbeattie continued their charge up the table with a hard-fought 4-2 win at Hawick Royal Albert.

Lewis Sloan scored two for Star with Steve Degnam and Connor Graham also on target.

Josh Morris scored both of Hawick’s consolations.

Harvey Moyes also hit the target twice as Stirling University left Raydale Park with a 3-0 win over Gretna.

Paul McCafferty was also on target for Shelley Kerr’s team.

In the SFA South Regional Cup, East Kilbride edged past Civil Service Strollers with a 2-1 win.

BSC Glasgow beat Heriot-Watt University 4-2 at Riccarton, while Gala Fairydean Rovers eased into the second round with a 4-1 win over Heston Rovers.

Vale of Leithen hammered Creetown 6-0 at Victoria Park, and Preston Athletic dumped Tweedmouth Rangers out with a 7-1 victory.

And Edinburgh University edged out Peebles Rovers 2-1 at Whitestone Park.

Cumbernauld Colts made it a Lowland League clean sweep with a 1-0 win over St Cuthbert’s Wanderers.
