GHA 14

Gala 31

Duncan Scott at Braidholm

A strong first quarter from Gala ultimately was sufficient to see off a spirited GHA side marshalled by former Scotland 7s player Peter Jericevich.

An early injury to GHA winger Lonergan, followed by his replacement Denerick being yellow carded in the move leading up to Gala's first try from Craig Robertson, converted by Gregor Hunter didn’t help GHAs cause.

Paul Hendry raced in for his brace in the space of three minutes, with the first converted by Hunter for 0-19.

Rob Louw was next to go over for a try on 22 minutes, again converted by Hunter for a healthy 26 points lead.

Gala seemed to ease up a little, letting GHA score just before half time with a Goudie try converted by Jericevich

But the 26 points to seven advantage was still commanding.

A string of changes in the Maroons' ranks was followed by a Simon Fairburn try with only his second touch of the ball.

A yellow card for Matt Carryer on 63 minutes was quickly followed by GHA try from Plumridge, converted by Jericevich for 14-31.

In a bad-tempered finale both Cammy Pate and GHA's Harkins were also shown yellow by referee Mabon.

But Gala's first half superiority had made sure it was the Maroons who were progressing tot he third round.
