FORMER Scotland star Garry O'Connor is to be replaced as manager of Selkirk.

But the 16-times striker will take on a new role at Yarrow Park.

An agreement was reached earlier this week which will see a new manager appointed over the coming days.

And the players were told last night during preparations for tomorrow's match with Spartans.

Selkirk chairman Ross Anderson told the Border Telegraph: "Garry has a big part to play in the future of Selkirk Football Club.

"He was finding the day to day management side of things difficult along with having a young family and his other commitments.

"Garry will be still be involved in the football side of the club and he will also be working in a commercial capacity as well, but without the pressures that come with management of a team."

The former Hibernian, Lokomotiv Moscow and Birmingham City player took over the managerial role from Steve Forrest midway through last season.

O'Connor's assistant manager Joe Brown will take charge of the team for this weekend's Lowland League match.

And a new manager will be appointed early next week.

Anderson added: "We have held talks with someone who is well qualified and we hope to be able to make an announcement next week.

"Nobody is leaving Selkirk - the coaching staff and everyone else that is currently here will be staying on.

"We have big plans for Selkirk Football Club and we want to have all of the right people in place before we progress those plans."
