FAIRYDEAN Rovers captain Scott Main will be looking for revenge this week in a bid to give Hawick a Hogmanay hangover.

The defender collected two red cards when the teams met at Albert Park back in October.

Manager Steven Noble was also sent to the stands during a bad-tempered game, which Hawick won 4-1.

Following a six-match ban Main will make his return to the Gala team to face the Royalists yet again.

Manager Noble told us: "Scott has been a big miss for us and we are delighted he'll be involved again.

"We felt a bit undone that day and we'll make sure we don't make the same mistakes this time.

"Hawick have done well this season and they will make it difficult for us but we need to win this one."

Noble will also welcome back Darren Smith for the first of three derbies in a row.

After Saturday's match with Hawick, Gala travel to Victoria Park next Saturday to face Vale before hosting Selkirk at Netherdale on January 14.

Following the disappointment of losing 5-3 at Whitehill Welfare before Christmas, where his team leaked four goals in the final eight minutes, the manager is desperate to pick up points against all of his neighbours.

Steven added: "The derbies all take extra significance with the prospect of relegation waiting for the bottom team this season.

"Whitehill was a big disappointment - we'd played well for 80 minutes and were then on the wrong end of a fightback.

"We have seen in recent weeks that Preston Athletic have turned a corner so nobody is safe from finishing bottom.

"January is going to be a big month for us and I'd like to start with a win against Hawick."

Noble is currently in talks with Rangers over retaining keeper Kieran Wright on loan until the end of the season.

Vale manager Chris Anderson has secured the services of loanee Blair Atkinson from Spartans for the rest of 2016/17.

And he is about to sign two former Victoria Park players, Andy Martin and Jack Blaikie, ahead of the derbies.

New Selkirk manager Ian Fergus has met with Hearts in a bid to keep Tynecastle winger Dale Baxter at Yarrow Park until the end of the season.

He also hopes to have added two or three new players to his squad ahead of his Hogmanay match with Vale.

Ian said: "I am hopeful we can retain Dale. He is a talented young player who fits in well with the team.

"I can't say too much about players coming in as nobody has signed yet but there are a few players in the pipeline."

Selkirk currently sit bottom of the Lowland League.

But Fergus is remaining optimistic ahead of his team's three derbies.

He added: "I am pleased with the way the players have trained since I came in.

"They have already shown character to get a draw at Stirling University and when we bringing in a few new players we will have a squad who can stay in the league.

"It's a pity it was allowed to get to this stage but we will do everything we can to get out of it."

Fergus will welcome back Murray Christie and James Harley for Saturday's match against Vale at Yarrow Park.

Selkirk's Hogmanay derby kicks off at 2pm, while Gala Fairydean Rovers' clash with Hawick starts at 3pm.
