SCOTLAND’S most capped player Majid Haq ensured Gala suffered one of their worst ever defeats at Corstorphine.

The visitors were bowled out for just 16 against the Championship leaders, with Haq taking six wickets for just five runs. In reply Corstorphine rattled out the runs for the loss of just one wicket.

Haq has claimed the wickets of ex-South African captain Graeme Smith, former Australian skipper Michael Clarke and controversial England star Kevin Pietersen during his international career.

He has also faced a similarly embarrassing scoreline when Scotland were reduced to 6 for 5 against Durham in 2003. On that occasion, Haq scored 55 not out with the bat – Gala had no such performer to save their blushes on Saturday.

Gala always knew the Championship would be a huge step up this season, especially at the tail end of the season when some players are committed to returning to club rugby.

The Braw Lads have fared relatively well up until now, but they know they need a hugely improved effort for the remaining four games – starting this weekend away to relegation rivals Dunnikier.
