THERE was mixed fortunes for Borders clubs at the weekend as both Melrose and Hawick & Wilton celebrated promotion.

But Saturday's results meant that both Gala and St Boswells will drop down a division next season.

Gala's defeat at Grange Loan to Carlton Seconds makes it impossible for the Braw Lads to survive the drop from the Championship.

Kelso, whose game at Costorphine was called off, will be the region's only side in the top flight next season.

St Boswells are also dropping down a league following Saturday's conceded match to Fauldhouse in Division Two.

But Selkirk have thrown themselves a lifeline in Division Three with a stunning seven wicket victory over Murrayfield Seconds at Philiphaugh.

The visitors were restricted to 145 from their 40 overs before Rory Banks led the response with 75 not out.

Selkirk, who are now third from the foot of the table, face second-bottom Glenrothes in which has become a survival play-off.

Hawick & Wilton's walkover against Edinburgh University Staff has ensured they are promoted from Division Four.

And Melrose go up from Division Five as champions after their eight wicket win over Largo Seconds at Huntlyburn.

Melrose bowled the visitors all out for 64 before Will Owen, with 37 not out, led the response.

Peebles County's seven-wicket win over Kirk Brae has ensured they will finish fourth in Division Five.
