Gala Fairydean Rovers 0

Airdrieonians 7

IT was a game which came far too early for Gala Fairydean Rovers as they were outclassed by a strong Airdrie outfit at Netherdale on Saturday.

Bolstered by the signing of a number of experienced players, the Lanarkshire side showed they will be a force to be reckoned with in League One for the forthcoming season by cruising to a seven goal victory.

Gala, meanwhile, had a number of players unavailable and were always going to be up against it after only resuming training a week previous.

Assistant manager Dean Robertson said:"It was a tough task for the players but to their credit they kept battling away.

"It was a game under their belts and the main thing is getting the squad prepared for the start of the league campaign at the end of July."

Airdrie were three goals up at the interval with goals from Joao Victoria, Daryl Duffy and Scott Stewart.

The one way traffic continued after the break with further goals from Duffy, Cammy Russell, Scott Thomson and Craig Truesdale.

Airdrie head coach Stevie Findlay said:"It was a good work out for us and we were able to bed in our new players comfortably.

"I am very excited about the season ahead."

Gala's pre-season build-up continues tomorrow (Thursday) when League Two side Edinburgh City visit Netherdale.

Kick off at the 3G Arena is 7.45pm.
