SCOTLAND can boast its first European trophy since the 1970s after Lauder returned with silverware from a tournament in Italy at the weekend.

The Border Amateur minnows were guests at a four-team competition in the southern town of Cirella.

Despite almost half the team missing their flights on the way out and several other mishaps along the way, the Woodcot Park side managed to draw with host club AS Cirella in their opening match.

And better was to come as they defeated Azzurra 2-1 and finished off their games with a 3-1 victory over Cirrella Old Boys.

Robert Thomson scored three goals during the three matches and both Craig Marshall and Chris Connor were also on target.

Coach Alan Thomson said: "Winning the cup was just the icing on the cake. We were well looked after from the minute we arrived - they had bands playing the national anthem before our game and there were good crowds out to watch us. Not many teams can say they are undefeated in Europe."
