But manager Steve Forrest believes the corner will be turned in the coming weeks.

Returning striker Garry O’Connor led the visitors’ line at Peffermill and started to show glimpses of the form which earned him 16 goals earlier this season.

Although Selkirk enjoyed most of the possession during the opening 45 minutes it was the students who edged ahead from the penalty spot.

Jamie Pyper’s shoulder challenge on Duncan Black inside the area was deemed a foul.

And Black stepped up to slide the ball beyond Jamie Newman.

Selkirk were back level within two minutes.

Following a nice build up Stephen Anderson’s cross was met by the head of Paul Tansey for his first goal for the club.

But the second half belonged to Edinburgh Uni.

Jack Guthrie fired them back in front on the hour.

And with 12 minutes remaining David Oswald made sure of the points with another good strike.

Selkirk manager Forrest said: “We are showing signs of reaching the level we were at when we had the French boys - we’re not far away from that tempo.

“We were good in the first half but our passes started to miss and things just went downhill in the second half.

“Garry O’Connor is on the road back and it won’t be long until he’s back to being the player he should be.

“We’ve been on a bad run but that will lend soon.” Selkirk: J Newman, D Gallan, S Anderson, J Pyper, S Guiney, C Scott, P Tansey, D Cummings, G O’Connor, J Finnie & P Addison.
