Thirty one grants totalling £10,660 were provided in the year ending June 30, 2014, according to the Trust’s annual report. That figure is up from £8,375 provided in the previous year.

Recipients came from every high school catchment area in the Borders and included a total of 13 different sports.

The Trust’s AGM saw David Boland re-elected as chairman, Wilma Henry re-appointed as treasurer and Eileen Ramage continue as secretary. Gala RFC player Alan Emond joined the committee, while Sheila Patterson and Ross Patterson stepped down due to other commitments.

David Boland said: “Thanks once again to our hard working committee for their efforts throughout the year which saw the Trust hand out £2,000 more than the previous year. We also have to thank Alan Brown for collating the annual financial report again.

“Also, we have to recognise the people who have supported the Trust through sponsorship, donations and attending our events. Your efforts are making a difference to young sportspeople across the Borders.” Among the latest successful grant recipients was Galashiels para swimmer Beth Johnston. The Ettrick and Lauderdale Rowan Boland Trust Disability Sports Personality of the Year, and national squad member received £750 to aid her development in the sport.

Other recipents were footballer Josh Kerr (£150), and swimmer Ellenor Gracey (£150).

Duns tennis playing sisters Tara and Robyn Harvey have also picked up £300 each and floorball players Ben Storrie and Michael Smyth received £150 each from the Trust.
