The Scottish National Open Swimming Championships were held at Tollcross in Glasgow from June 25 to 28 and provided a fitting finale for most swimmers across the country.

It attracts all the big names from the swimming world and as there is no age group differential, qualifying for this prestigious event is an achievement in itself.

Five Gala ASC based swimmers, swimming under the BEST Banner (Borders Elite Swimming Team), qualified for the event and gave their all in a competition that is only for the best of the best, showing that all the hours of training and early morning starts paid off with some superb swimming throughout the four days of competition.

Robbie Czajka, Beth Johnston, Sarah Frizzel, Lindsay Jack and Andrew Watt all competed and flew the Gala ASC flag with pride with some great swims and Personal Bests (PBs) throughout the four days.

The star of the show without doubt was Beth who became the Scottish Open Champion in the 100m Backstroke, breaking her own Scottish Record in the process. Not content with breaking 1 record, Beth went on to break the Scottish Record in the 50m Free (twice) and the 100m Free all in the S10 Class. A truly outstanding achievement and one that the Club is very proud off.

Well done to all our members and indeed all the other BEST Swimmers who competed in Glasgow. The club would also like to thank the BEST Head Coach Lauren Jocelyn for looking after our swimmers.

The last event of the season will be the Scottish National Summer Meet at the end of July. This is an invitational meet based on the best times swimmers have accumulated over the season. Just a few more weeks training to go then you can all enjoy a well-earned summer break.
