GALASHIELS Bowling Club's A team travelled to Selkirk to face Ettrick Forest in Division 2 last Wednesday.

It was always going to be tough away from home against league contenders but gave a good showing in what was a fair night with rain holding off to last few ends. Unfortunately it came too late and Gala with no winning rinks slumped to a (88–68) defeat. On Friday, Gala were due to play St Ronans at home in the Knockout Cup but home team progresses as the visitors could not fulfil fixture. Due to the National Championships in Ayr this week, our next game has been brought forward to Monday away to Peebles.

The seniors were involved in a very tight game away to Selkirk/Ettrick Forest last Tuesday. One shot was the difference with the visitors winning (69–68) and with a game in hand, to remain in contention at top of table. Their next game is at home to Hawick on Tuesday (yesterday). The ladies were away to Lauder last Tuesday and despite the rain, managed to pick up 3 out of 5pts with one winning rink.

On Saturday, it was our annual fixture against Portobello and it was our turn to make the trip up the A68. Despite a rain delay, which affected some bowling at restart, Gala looked comfortable throughout and retained the cup with a (76 – 62) victory. Thank you to all who participated which was a good day out.

Finally would like to wish all the best to Gala BC member Rob Fulton who is playing in the Senior Singles at Ayr in the National Championships this week.
