IT is one of the most colourful events in the Borders.

Tweedbank Fair continues with the Fancy Dress Parade tonight (Wednesday). Judging gets underway at Tweedbank Primary School at 6.30pm.

And Galashiels Ex-Service Pipe Band will lead the Parade.

The Tweedbank Lad and Lass, Josh Wright and Katie Wilson, and their Attendants, will exchange colours with the Melrosian Fraser Anderson during the evening.

It follows the visit of the Braw Lad and Lass, Gavin Young and Alice Mackay, from Galashiels, for the Investiture evening last night (Tuesday).

A new extended programme has been launched in Tweedbank by the new-look Fair committee this year.

Tweedbank Fair will culminate with the Fruit and Flower Parade and Fun Day at the primary school on Saturday, May 31.

And, to round the week off, a Madness tribute band will headline a night of entertainment in the community centre that evening.

The programme for the rest of the week is as follows - Wednesday, May 28: Tweedbank Toddler Group and Tweedbank District Childminding Group host a Mini Commonwealth Games at the Community Centre from 10am to 11am.

Fancy Dress Parade, Tweedbank Primary School, 6.30pm. It will be followed by a disco in the community centre.

Thursday, May 29: Bingo, Cheese and Wine evening in the community centre, from 7pm til late.

Indoor Bowling Tournament at Tweedbank Bowling Club, 6.30pm. Teams of four people can enter at a cost of £4 per person.

Friday, May 30: Tweedbank Fair Masquerade Ball, for ages 14 to 17 (masks optional), community centre. Admission £2. Tickets from Tweedbank Late Shop.

Saturday, May 31: Street artists, meet at the paved area at school entrance, from 10am to 11am (weather permitting).

Fruit and Flower Grand Parade leaves the community centre for the primary school at 12.45pm.

Melrose and District Pipes and Drums will lead the parade, followed by the Tweedbank Lad and Lass and their Attendants, travelling in grand style in a horse and carriage, followed by local community groups and individuals.

All children who wish to donate fruit or flowers to a Galashiels nursing home should meet at the community centre for 12.30pm where they will be given a ticket to receive £1 at the school following the parade.

The Fete and Fun Day, including the penalty shoot out competition for the Chris Doyle Football Trophy (open to all P7s), will follow in the school field from 1pm.

Among the attractionS will be Tri Boat Club radio controlled boats, BSLT dunk tank, free inflatable rides, crafts stalls, car boot sale, raffle and, at 3pm, a fun run.

A Madness tribute band and two comedians will entertain adults at the community centre from 7pm. Tickets are priced £10 from committee members.
