A TEAM of 14 volunteers from Galashiels took part in the monthly Gala Waterways Group work party to clear a 35 metre section of the mill lade behind the High Street car park at the back of Iceland on Saturday, June 6.
You can see the clearance of vegetation and rubbish cleared away and the mill lade running much cleaner and unobstructed if you look over the wall in the car park.
One of the volunteers clearing out in the lade saw several small fish, evidence to show it is worth trying to keep our waterways and local environment clean.
Seven bags of rubbish, which included a fish bowl, were collected weighing nearly 40 kilos. If you would like to help the group at the next two hour work party, meet at the High Street car park toilets, on Saturday, July 4 at 10am.
