And, with its launch planned to coincide with the reopening of the Borders Railway, it is hoped to put local bands on track to success.

100 Bands on the Border will see 100 bands perform in Galashiels over the weekend of September 11 to 13.

The former lead singer of chart-toppers Runrig, Donnie Munro, is among the headline acts. He will be supported by the likes of Galashiels singer-songwriter Craig Jeffrey and Peebles singer-songwriter Georgia Gordon.

Gigs are set to take place inside and out with performances in pubs, restaurants and nightclubs.

“There is an amazing abundance of musical talent in the Scottish Borders, and it is expected that '100Bands on The Border’ will offer an on-going opportunity for the continuous emergence of new sounds,” said Craig Jeffrey, of JMP3 (Jeffrey Music Promotions) which is organising the event.

He added: “We would like to thank everyone involved in making this event one of the most ambitious music festivals in Scotland. We would also like to give a big thank you to our sponsors Bidvest Foodservice for their generous support.
