GALASHIELS boxer Jack Swaney will take on Paul Greville, of East Renfrewshire’s Barrhead Boxing Club, in the Boxing Scotland Golden Gloves Elite Championship final over three rounds of three minutes at Motherwell’s Ravenscraig Sports Facility on Saturday, April 15.

The 22-year-old became the first Gala Boxing Club fighter to qualify for a final after a quarter-final win over Glasgow’s Rob Roy Boxing Club’s Sohaib Anaib on March 18 then Kirkcaldy’s Kingdom Boxing Club’s 40-bout veteran Davy Nelson a week later in the semis.

The club are taking a table at the prestigious event and many of Swaney’s friends and family are going to support him.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the fight. I’ve seen Paul Greville fight a few times and I think I have enough to get the job done. Training has been going well and I am determined to being the belt back to Galashiels.”

And the club has another reason to celebrate this week as Jack Noble won his Scottish Elite quarter final bout by a unanimous decision at an event in Alloa on Saturday night April 8.

Coach Jim Gow said: “Noble had a mature and controlled performance against an awkward opponent to take home the win.”
